Barbara Lacy's Obituary
Barbara Ruth Lacy was born on January 17, 1955 in Louise, Mississippi to Nash Hamlin Jr, and Alice Lee (Clark) Hamlin. Barbara’s family moved to San Francisco in 1957. Barbara attended the public schools of San Francisco and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1973. It was in high school where Barbara met Jerome Crawford, who she later married. Their union blessed her with a daughter, Tanika Cheri Crawford, born on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1974.
Barbara had a flourishing career in the banking industry. She began with an entry level program at Wells Fargo Bank, moved on to Operations and Coding at Bank of America, and received her first managerial position at Union Bank. Lastly, Barbara secured a supervisory position with the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
Throughout her life, Barbara had an ongoing relationship with Christ. As a child, her mother insisted that she and her siblings regularly attend church and bible study classes. As an adult, she was an active member of the Third Baptist Church of San Francisco, then became the head of the Audio and Visual Department at Acts Full Gospel Church of God in Christ in Oakland, CA. She later found her home at Bible Way Church in Richmond, CA, where she married Darryl Lacy. Soon after joining Bible Way Church She found her calling as a teacher in Women’s’ Ministry.
In her downtime, Barbara was fond of fishing and camping. She also enjoyed bowling and joined a job sponsored league in the late 90’s. Barbara was a skilled cook with an adventurous palate, which is now known as a foodie. An avid music collector as well as a dazzling dancer, Barbara enjoyed many categories of music and dance styles.
In 2004, Barbara was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. A year later, after splitting from her husband, she moved to Sacramento, California. Barbara battled the MS for many years, holding fast to her faith; never complaining. She quietly departed this life on Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018 at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California. Her strength, love, and laughter will be forever cherished by all who knew her.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Alice Lee Hamlin, her father, Nash Hamlin, Jr., (Barbara Ann), her daughter Tanika Cheri Crawford, brothers Sylvester Hamlin and Elliott Ferguson (Leticia), sisters LaVerna Vaughn (Tony), Tammy Marie Hamlin, Kelly Alford, and Blake Hamlin, nieces, Shaughnessie Sturdivant Roa, Nicole Vaughn, Blaise Hamlin, Carlicia Harris, Shaon Ferguson, Amari Ferguson, Brooklyn Hamlin, nephews Jaquan Nicholson, Lamonte Ferguson, Joseph Hamlin, Everyn Alford; a host of family and friends.
