Barbara Claudius Maloney September 5, 1922-August 5, 2013Resident of Lafayette, CABorn and raised in Oakland, Barbara lived most of her adult life in Lafayette. She was the beloved wife of Richard “Dick” Maloney, mother to Graham, Marcia and Joann, grandmother to Jeffrey, Jennifer, Heather, Alex, and Kate, and great-grandmother to Tori, Olivia and Emme.Barbara loved her life as a homemaker and enjoyed offering gracious hospitality to friends and family. She hosted many holiday feasts, social gatherings, and informal family meals, and always with grace and ease. Barbara was an avid and accomplished bridge player, and loved hosting bridge parties at her home and at Claremont Country Club. While she loved to shop at the elegant stores of San Francisco (I. Magnin being a favorite), she was equally at home in her garden, digging up weeds and tending to her roses.She was devoted to her grandchildren, who will always remember her abiding affection and tenderness toward them. “Baba” loved caring for all of them and indulged each one with their favorite special meals and treats from her kitchen.Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, in 2008, and her sister, Priscilla Gray, in 1999.
