Avis Ann Johnson's Obituary
Avis Ann Johnson, 80, of Fairfield, CA, passed away peacefully, Saturday, September 14, 2024. Avis was the cherished matriarch of her family, known for her kind, loving, caring and humorous personality.
Avis was born on October 24th, 1943, to Clarence Jackson and Virginia Dorsey (both deceased) in Florence, California. Her parents separated and her father married her stepmother, Marjorie Barnes. Avis shared her time with both families.
After graduating from Castlemont High School in 1961, she met and married her beloved husband, Donald P. Johnson. Avis and Donald went on to have two children, Orlando Bryan Johnson and Phillip Johnson. She and Donald were very proud of their boys and they grew up to be the men they raised them to be.
Avis worked most of her career as a 411 operator for Pacific Bell. She also spent time with the Berkeley Police Department as a dispatcher. She retired from Pac Bell in 1983 after working for 20 years.
Avis enjoyed reading, bowling, cooking, and spending time with family. She was a regular at her sons' and grandkids sporting events and could be heard throughout the gym cheering for their teams.
Avis was preceded in death by her husband, Donald (2008), her brother Ronald Bragg, her sister-in-law Barbara Johnson, and daughter-in-law Deidre Johnson. She is survived by sisters and brothers Lynetta Dorsey, Elaine Jackson, Roselyn Bragg, Michael Bragg, Jerry Barnes and sister-in-law Orena Bragg. She is also survived by in-laws Robert Johnson, Shirley Johnson and Gordon Johnson, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Avis will always be remembered and missed by her sons and their wives, Laney Johnson and Greta Johnson. She will live on in the hearts of her beloved grandchildren Nicholas, Christopher, N’dea, Joshua, and Alicia.
