Audrey Ruth Bethel's Obituary
Audrey Ruth Bethel Feb. 28, 1920 – Jan. 12, 2012 Former Resident, San Leandro Audrey Ruth Bethel passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 12, 2012. She was born in Reno, Nevada, and graduated from the University of Nevada where she was a member and President of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She was a long-time member of the Piedmont Community Church, and a resident of San Francisco, Alameda and, most recently, San Leandro. Audrey’s loving husband of 39 years, Jewell L. Bethel, predeceased her in 2007. She is survived by her son, Norman Saake and his wife Patty of Fallon, Nevada, and her daughter, Gay Lane and her husband Douglas of Cedar Grove, New Jersey. She was a loving grandmother to Norman’s two sons, Mark Saake and his wife Janine, and Rick Saake and his wife Jenni, and to Gay’s two sons, John Hanson, and Todd Hanson and his wife Amy. She was great-grandmother of John Luke, Andrew, Joshua, Ruth, and Jeremiah Saake and Hailey, Allyson, Dylan, Katherine and Noah Hanson. Audrey was step-mother to Richard Bethel and his wife Sue. Their son Kevin and wife Melody have two sons Brandon and Andrew. Richard and Sue’s daughter Lisa Fulton is married to Rick and their children are Nicholas, Cory and granddaughter Coral. Audrey’s other step-son Bruce Bethel and his wife Bree have two children, Annette and Skylar. Annette Ellis is married to Ken and their children are Jacquelyn and Jayden. Audrey’s step-daughter Karen Milos who pre-deceased her in 2006 has two sons Carl and Jeremiah Geary. Carl is married to Paulette and their children are Ashley, Cameron and Logan. Jeremiah is married to Colleen and has a step-daughter Tayler Rice. Services will be held on Sunday, January 22, at 3 pm at Piedmont Community Church, 400 Highland Ave., Piedmont, CA 94044. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Audrey’s memory to Girls Inc., a national non-profit organization giving hope for a bright future to, and helping underserved girls become “Strong, Smart and Bold,” 120 Wall Street, New York, NY 10005-3902.
