Arthurine Laura Taylor's Obituary
Arthurine Laura Le Bon Taylor was born on October 11, 1928 in Berkeley, California to Arthur and Marion Le Bon. She grew up on Russell Street in Berkeley. Arthurine attended Longfellow Elementary School, Burbank Jr. High School and graduated from University High School in Oakland in 1946. She attended San Francisco Jr. College and Merritt Business School in Oakland. Arthurine worked as a secretary and counselor for the Berkeley Unified School District for 25 years and retired in 1997.
“Sister” loved music, particularly jazz, and she was an accomplished pianist. She loved the song “Harbor Lights” and was fond of the music of Erroll Garner, Charlie Parker, and Jimmy Smith.
Arthurine enjoyed being with her friends, going to Cache Creek, and attending music programs and jazz sessions at the Golden Gate Library on Sunday afternoon in July and August.
Sister lived by two principles she believed to be important: treat others the way you want to be treated; and let your “yes” mean “yes.” Arthurine was a spiritual woman and her relationship with God was of great importance to her.
Arthurine was preceded in death by her husband, Wyatt Taylor; her parents, Arthur and Marion Le Bon; her brothers, Herbert L. Le Bon, Darrell M. Le Bon and Harold L. Le Bon.
She is survived by family members Vera Boyd of Pearland, Texas; Stephen Smith of Berkeley, California; Stanley (Jaxon) Smith of Blanco, Texas; Peige Hilburn of Pearland, Texas; Lance Boyd of Pearland, Texas; and her many friends.
Arthurine Laura Taylor will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her. We are looking forward to the fulfillment of Job 14:15, “He will call!”
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service honoring Arthurine on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 1:30 pm at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, California.
