Arthur Dell OvermanMay 29, 1916-April 12, 2006 Born in Richmond, California, the second child of Charles B. and Edith (Ruble) Overman, Art attended Richmond schools and graduated fromRichmondHigh School in 1934. He married Bernice (Lolly) Barthels of Berkeley in 1939. They had a rich and caring life together until he was sadly widowed in 1951.Art worked for Nordstrom Value inOakland for many years. In 1953, he transferred to the new Rockwell Valves plant inSulphur Springs, Texas , where he met a local woman, Sue White Carpenter. They went back to California and were married in 1955. Art had a wonderful life with Sue inAlbany, California until her passing in 2005. Art had a delightful sense of humor that brought joy to everyone around him. He was an honorable, intelligent, and hard-working family man who never had anything bad to say about anyone. He loved to sing and play music, and had a trio that played for dances and weddings throughout the Bay Area for three decades.Art worked for Shell Development Company in Emeryville and then for the Space Sciences Laboratory at theUniversity ofCalifornia , Berkeley . He retired from UC Berkeley in 1992, and he and Sue had an eventful retirement, traveling and enjoying the company of their poodle dogs, Casey and Corey. Art was preceded in death by his older brother Charles and sister LaDonna many years ago, and by his younger brother LaMar earlier this year. He is survived by four loving sons: James Overman and his wife Kathie of Fremont, California; Ronald Overman of Richmond, California; Gary Carpenter of Honolulu, Hawaii; and Michael Overman ofDavis, California . Three devoted grandchildren survive him: Jennifer Turner and her husband Tom of Oakland, California; Joshua Overman and Tiffany Indorante ofFremont, California ; andKim berly Wiley and her husband David of Lincoln, California. He also leaves four beloved great-grandchildren: Brent Maxwell and Lukas Wiley of Lincoln, California and Isabel and Evangeline Turner ofOakland, California . He is also survived by many other family members and friends. A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 6 atMount VernonCemetery inMount Vernon, Texas .
