Annie Ruth Garland's Obituary
The passing of Annie has called us all together this morning. Annie Ruth Garland was born January 20, 1932 to the union of Chauncey and Jeffrey Taylor in Longview, Texas. She was the second youngest of ten children. She graduated from Longview High School, in 1949.
At a very early age, Annie confessed her faith in Jesus Christ and united with the Hebron Missionary Baptist Church. Later, she united with Pleasant Hill C.M.E. Church, both in Longview, Texas.
She moved to California in June 1952 where she met and married Joseph Garland. To this union was born 6 sons. Here she cast her membership with Ebenezer Baptist Church on Divisadero Blvd, also in San Francisco.
Annie had a huge giving heart and she was very passionate about helping others. And her generous spirit was backed up with a “tell it like it is” philosophy but with candor and a great deal of love.
She was a fantastic cook and baker. She made the best Peach Cobbler, Sweet Potato Pies and Coconut Pineapple cakes that you could ever taste. She always made sure everyone in her company had plenty of delicious food to eat. Her generosity was bigger than her heart. The Lord blessed her as she blessed all those around her.
Annie departed this life on Friday, October 14, 2016 at the age of 84 years old.
Left to cherish her memories and contributions to the world are many many friends and family. She was the last surviving Taylor of her siblings group. She is survived by five sons: Ricky, Reginald, Michael, Juan and Christopher Ali (Denise); grandchildren: Ashley Alexis, Bethany Lillian Joy, JaLessa, NaKeeya, Taylor Elaine, and her only grandson, Jeffrey Christopher Ali; great granddaughter, Harlym Anne Scott, and a tremendous number of in-laws, nieces, nephews, relative and friends.
