Anne-Marie Butenhoff's Obituary
Anne-Marie Ward Butenhoff Of San Francisco died in her home on June 17th, 2012 after a seven-month battle with cancer. Born in Bayonne, New Jersey, December 28th, 1930, to Patrick and Grace Ward of Donegal, Ireland, Anne-Marie grew up in Bayonne, one of six children who preceded her in death: Margaret, Susan, James, Sean and Patrick. Anne-Marie loved creating a rich repertoire of experiences, working as an American Airlines flight attendant, an antiques dealer and a global traveler exploring countries and cultures all over the world. Anne-Marie’s greatest passion was her family, especially her four surviving children, Kurt, Susan, Eric and Kristen, who she raised singlehandedly after being widowed at 36 following the death of her husband Gunther K. Butenhoff. She looked to instill a love of foreign cultures in her children by relocating to London, England and organizing trips for her family all over Europe. In addition to learning through travel, Anne-Marie emphasized the importance of a formal education ensuring that her children were educated at some of England’s best schools. She is also survived by Karl Nygren, her beloved husband who she married in August, 2005. In just seven years of marriage they experienced a rich life together, travelling extensively and enjoying life to its fullest. She is further survived by six grandchildren: Nicholas, Grace, Alexander, Zoe, Kyle and Kate. Anne Marie will be greatly missed by her immediate and extended family along with countless other friends whom were blessed to know her. The Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 22nd at Piedmont Community Church in Piedmont, California. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Anne-Marie’s name to Piedmont Community Church and Rafael House, a family support service and shelter for families and children experiencing homelessness in San Francisco.
