Anna J. Yeung's Obituary
Anna passed peacefully on January 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. After suffering from a stroke in December 2024, Anna entered hospice care so that she could be in the comfort of her own home with loved ones.
Anna was born January 29, 1931 to Lee and Charlie (Jung) Chew. She grew up in Oakland and graduated from Oakland Technical High School before earning her BA degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
She met her lifelong love, Walter, at Cal and they remained inseparable ever since. They married in 1954 and welcomed their three children, Sherrie, Michael, and Eileen over the next decade. She played a crucial role as crew chief of an important construction project – building their home on Skyline Boulevard in the Oakland hills – contacting and coordinating all of the vendors and subcontractors. Anna worked at various jobs, spending most of her career as school secretary at OUSD elementary schools. She retired in 1986 and entered the final, and perhaps most important, phase of her career as a grandmother (Pau Pau/Mah Mah).
Throughout her life, Anna enjoyed traveling the world with family and friends, spending quality time with loved ones, and being the mastermind behind all of the family’s celebrations, both big and small.
Anna is survived by her husband Walter; children Sherrie (Rick), Michael (Sue), Eileen (Lance); grandchildren Chris, Rachel (Danny), Steph (Aryan), Kevin, Kaitlyn; great-grandchildren Arya, Andy, Sami, and Olivia. She is also survived by her sisters, Flora and Muriel, sister-in-law Kayris, and brother Donald (Nancy). She is pre-deceased by brother Gordon and brother-in-law Jimmy.
A visitation will be held on February 4, 2026, 5:30-8pm and the Celebration of Life will be held on February 5, 2026, 11am, at Chapel of the Chimes (4499 Piedmont Ave., Oakland).
