Angelina Shaffer's Obituary
Angelina K. Shaffer was born on January 8, 1931, in Oakland, California, to William and Victoria Kayo. She was the seventh of nine children, with her siblings being William Jr., George, Carmel, Mary, Augustine, Raymond, Albert, and the youngest, Rosie.
Angelina began her career with Pac Bell (now AT&T) eventually reaching the highest position available to a woman at the time, working as a right-of-way agent. Drafting plans and out on the field to obtain easements. She was a force to be reckoned with.
She had met Ralph F. Shaffer at a bowling alley under serendipitous circumstances; her friend introduced them when Ralph happened to come into the bowling alley to use the restroom. Their first date on April 1st marked the beginning of 63 years together.
The couple worked diligently to achieve their dream of homeownership, eventually purchasing their first home at 2453 Wilbur Street in Oakland. There, they raised their four beloved children: John, Susanne, Jeanne, and Helen.
She loved her 10 grandchildren dearly and so lucky to have 6 adorable great grandchildren and 5 precious great great grandchildren to date.
Angelina loved entertaining her large family during the holidays, especially Christmas, when she would continue her mother Victoria's tradition of making tamales. She also had a talent for making holiday crafts that brought beauty and warmth into the home.
Angelina cherished outdoor adventures, particularly camping at Silver Lake. Her vibrant spirit kept her active, volunteering her time to the cancer society, helping family or just always having travel plans on the calendar. Her love for animals was heartfelt, and the family had cats, dogs, a parakeet named Frederico, a tiny turtle, a tank full of fish, and that beloved rabbit with a tale to tell. She gave us a great love for animals that we will forever have.
Angelina lived a full and dynamic life, passing away at the age of 93. She remained strong and positive until the very end, leaving behind a legacy of strength and resilience, with the most fondest of memories.
