Anah Sugiyama's Obituary
Anah Toshiko Sugiyama was born in Oakland on June 6, 1930 to Toyotaro and Hamako Yamanashi and passed away peacefully on July 31, 2022. She was predeceased by husband Yosh Sugiyama, sister Helen Kato (and predeceased husband Mac), and sister Cecilia Sasaki (and predeceased husband John). She is survived by nephew Randy Kato and his wife Barbara. Anah attended schools in Oakland and Berkeley before the Second World War. During the war years, she went with her parents to the Topaz Relocation Center in Utah. After the war, she worked for Bank of America and Grower's Produce in Oakland. She was a long-time member of the Buddhist Temple of Alameda. Anah enjoyed many crafts and shared her creations with family and friends. Anah will be deeply missed by her surviving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Masami and May Sugiyama, James and Satoko Furuichi, Kiyomi Uyeda, and Karen Sugiyama. She also leaves behind many cousins, nephews, nieces, grand nieces, grand nephews, and friends, all of whom will cherish her for her kindness, generosity, and compassion. A private, family funeral will be held. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Anah Sugiyama's name.
