I'm very saddened to have learned of Miss O's passing this morning. She literally shaped my life as my journalism teacher and mentor, and then again when I was hired to teach journalism at Contra Costa College when she retired in 1980. She was such a great teacher and role model for me. I've worked at CCC ever since and I can honestly say that I think of her every day. I can only guess what my life would have been like if I had not walked into her classroom in 1973.She was the architect of the program here, writing curriculum and the associate degree in journalism, and even designing the layout of The Advocate staff's newsroom. I am wondering if there is to be a service for Miss O or a way we can honor her. I am already reaching out to many of her former students to let them know of her death and to begin plans for an Alma Oberst Memorial Scholarship at CCC.Please know that the thoughts and prayers of me and my family are with you all.
