Alice Mae Ridge's Obituary
Alice Mae Ridge was born on May 10, 1937 to the proud parents of Marvin and Sophia Ridge in Mazie, Oklahoma. After battling multiple health issues, Alice departed this life on Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Alice is preceded in death by her Mother Sophia Ridge, Father Marvin Ridge Sr., son James Wilson; sisters Mae Frances Ridge, Eunice Hudson, and Lillie Woods; brothers Marvin Ridge Jr., Melvin Ridge, Manly Ridge, Marion Ridge, Mitchell Ridge, and Amos Ridge; and granddaughter Capricia Payne.
Alice received Chirst at an early age. Alice received her education in the Inola Public School System in Oklahoma. After graduation in 1954, Alice moved to Kansas City, MO and began employment in the medical field. There Alice met Jimmy Lee Wilson and from this union was born two children, Diana Lynne Wilson and James Eugene Wilson. In 1965, Alice and her two young children relocated to Richmond, CA. There she met Henry “Buddy” Powell, and this union produced one daughter, Elaine Denise Ridge. Later, she met Charles Payne, Sr., and one son was born, Charles Edward Payne, Jr.
Alice aka “Sweet Alice” was a hardworking mother of four children who was employed as a cook at Harrison’s Barbeque in North Richmond, CA. where she was employed for over 25 years. Alice was known for her smile, personality, and cooking. Alice went to school to for her CNA license in San Francisco, CA. Later, Alice became a home health care provider for a North Richmond resident. In 1997, Alice moved to Solano County where she continued to provide companionship to other elderly adults.
No one was a stranger to Alice because she always took the time to get to know new people. Alice did not bite her tongue. Alice loved to cook for her family and friends. Alice was known by her friends and family for her signature sweet potatoes pies, and potato salad. Alice was a caring, blunt, feisty, understanding, no-nonsense, lovable woman. Alice had a big heart and ensured everyone she knew did not go without. Alice cherished her grandchildren dearly.
Alice leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Diana Lynne Wilson- Turner of Fairfield, CA and Elaine Denise Ridge of Suisun City, CA, one son Charles Edward Payne, Jr., of Oakland, CA, one daughter-in-law, Andrea Adams- Payne of Oakland, CA, seven grandchildren, Roshawunda Rachelle Dunham of Sacramento, CA, Priscilla Denise Dunham of Fairfield, CA, Robert Dewayne Phillips, Jr. of Suisun City, CA, Revlon Deniqua Phillips of Suisun City, CA, Jeremiah Joseph Payne of Richmond, CA, Chauncy Leon Turner, Jr. of Fairfield, CA, and Ciarah Charlene Elizabeth Payne of Richmond, CA, and two great grandsons, Draven Xavier Robinson and Native Xander Robinson of Sacramento, CA; three sisters, Mamie Faye Sanders of Tulsa, OK, Brenda Caldwell of Richmond, CA, and Carrie Townsell- Fitz of Reno, NV, one brother-in-law, Bill Caldwell of Richmond, CA, and two brothers Manuel Ridge, and Michael Ridge, and other Pittman siblings of OK, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
