Alfred Amey's Obituary
Alfred Randall Amey was born on May 7, 1945, to parents Ida Mae Newson and Enoch Amey
Jr.
Alfred received most of his education from Oakland Unified Schools District. However, he
received his high school diploma from Berkeley High School. Alfred worked several jobs, but
most of his working years were at his brother and sister-in-law’s company (One Stop Auto Parts).
During his teen years, he met and married Wilma Winters Amey, in 1963 and later divorced. From
this union, Pamela, Paula and Alan were born. In addition, Alfred had two other sons, Victor and
James. In the summer of 1978, Alfred met Florence Graves Amey and they married in 1979.
From this union, another daughter, Shanise L. Amey was born.
Although Alfred always believed in Christ, he became a devoted Christian later in life. He loved
the Lord, studied his Bible and prayed everyday, until his health declined. Alfred attended several
churches, and enjoyed serving wherever he was needed. He was a member of Capital City Seven
Day Adventist and Zion Temple Church of Christ Holiness. Alfred was not ashamed to share The
Word, his love for God, and tell his testimony about how becoming saved changed his life.
Alfred was an avid fisherman. He grew up fishing, hunting and camping with his dad and late
brother Alfonso. He spent many hours on the lake, with either his cousin Ronnie Ray, his late best
friend Norman (Tree Top) Terry, good friend, Brother Joe, and his son Victor. His catch of choice
was perch or crappie. When he owned a boat, he enjoyed going deep sea fishing. Alfred was also
a good domino player who enjoyed friendly trash talk with his fellow opponents. He liked driving
fast, but was not always the safest driver. One of Alfred’s favorite hobbies was eating. If you cooked
well and offered him food, he would eat everything! Although he ate a lot, he stayed in shape. Even
as a senior citizen he would do push-ups, sit-ups and lift weights everyday. He was proud to have
“big” muscles and would challenge you to push-ups any day. We will truly miss seeing him flex
his muscles. On Saturday, November 25, 2023, Alfred peacefully departed this life surrounded by
family.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, son, Alan Amey, Brothers Curtis Wiggins and Alfonso
Amey Sr., and one sister Shirley Duckworth-Amey.
