Dear Real Family,Although we have not been in touch for a long time, my brother Edgar and I would like to pay tribute to a great man who led a wonderful life. We are grateful to Mr. Real for the time and energy that he gave to St. Anthony’s sports programs, especially CYO Basketball. He was a great example to the kids, and may his memory live on! May he live in eternal peace!
It’s hard to believe that Al is gone but I know he is with his beautiful wife Pat in heaven. I am 25 years old and I remember Al and pat helping me and my family out so much when I was a little girl. We would go to St.Anthonys to get food, or clothes or sometimes both and they were always so nice. I never had a grandfather that I could look up and see but I always imagined that if I did, I would hope he would be just like Al. I love you Al and when I look back at my younger years you and your wife will always be apart of my story. See you soon.
Al Real was my dad’s best friend growing up in the Fruitvale area of Oakland. They met in elementary school and were best friends until my dad passed away 9 years ago. My grandfather would take them to St. Mary’s football games, Kezar Stadium in San Francisco and other sporting events. They joined the Navy together, however got separated somehow, so they were not able to be together in the Navy. When I was born my parents selected Al to be my Godfather. He was always so sweet and had such a great smile. Al will be missed. My sympathy to his family.Love Lilas Marcussen
