Ah Hoo Chan's Obituary
Ah Hoo Chan passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 26, 2019 at the age of 98. She was born in Canton, China on December 10, 1920. Ah Hoo Chan immigrated to the United States in 1940 when she was only 19 years old. She married Yuen Hee Chan on February 17, 1941 and resided in Oakland, California for over 75 years.
Ah Hoo spent her entire career as a seamstress, working at Security Parachute and Equipment Company during World War II, Co-Op Garment Manufacturers near Oakland Chinatown, and The North Face, Inc. in Berkeley where she retired in 1988. With her experience and talent, she enjoyed sewing her own clothes as well as for everyone in the family. She spent time at home cooking traditional Chinese meals for her loved ones and tending to her beautiful roses that have preceded her. She also traveled with her children and their families from China to Disneyland. And, she always looked forward to her next gambling trip to try her luck with the quarter machines.
Ah Hoo is survived by her children who cared for her dearly until her passing: Frances (& Wesley Hall), Stanley (& Julie Anderson), Harriett (& Allan Loebs), and Connie (& Bill Lee). She was a devoted Grandmother to Keith (& Amy Snow), Emily (& Ray Santos), Rebecca (& David Lucero), Luci (& Nikki Davis), Michael, Kim, Michelle, and Armin, as well as a doting and loving Great-Grandmother to Daniel, EJ, Ryan, Andrew, and Riya.
She will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, and family members, as she was the Matriarch of her family.
Funeral arrangements will be held at the Chapel of the Chimes, Oakland, California.
