Sean Cumby

Sean Bernard Cumby (“Bizzle” or “Bizz”) was 49 years old when he passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on January 7, 2018.  He had a beautiful soul and a loving heart filled with kindness and generosity.  He was always willing to help anybody that needed help – even complete strangers.  His charm, kind and gentle heart, and good-natured personality were his biggest assets.  He had a beautiful smile and a boisterous laughter that lit up any room.  He will be missed greatly by many.

Sean was born in Oakland, CA on June 21, 1968.  He attended Whittier Elementary School, Longfellow Middle School, Willard Junior High School, Berkeley High School, James Logan High School, Contra Costa Community College, Cal State Hayward, and Cal State Long Beach.  He ran track while in high school and college and broke many records.  He worked at multiple bio-tech companies in the bay area, BioMarin, Genentech, and Technical Safety Services.

Sean is survived by his wife, Sun Yen Cumby, his parents, Linda Holmes and James Cumby, his brother, Evan Cumby, Sr., his step-siblings, Johnny and Akiba Tripp, his parents in-law, Yean Chhaing and Ning Yen, his siblings-in-law, Moon Yen (Mikey Nguyen), Peter Yen (Sandy Ho), his great-aunt, E. Virginia Hall, his grandparents in-law, Chhan Kauy Fuk and Yeav Fouy Yen, his aunts and uncles, Dolores Cumby, Jacquelene Jones (Robert Jones), Linda Cumby, Shirley Cumby, Jo Ella Maclin, Lawrence Holmes, Michelle Holmes, Olivia Self, Keith Holmes, Ching Chou (Sing Chou), Chhoeng Ellison, Ing Yen, Mai Yen (Han Chau), Chen Yen, and Pan Yen, 35 cousins (including in-laws and spouses) with special recognition to Robert Earl Jones, Jr., Kevin Jones, Jumaane Jones, and Jaimel Hemphill, 9 nieces and nephews, 2 god-daughters, 5 fur babies (Pebbles, Sasha, Biscuit, Bam Bam, and Jesse), and a fish (Samy).

Sean was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandmother, the late Louise Johnson, his maternal grandparents, the late Mattie and Willie Holmes, his paternal grandparents, the late James and Geraldine Cumby, his aunt, the late Gloria Chaney, and his step-mother, the late Lavern Cumby.

Services include a viewing on January 19, 2018 from 4 – 8 pm and a memorial service on January 22, 2018 at 2pm at Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, CA.
