Rosemary Baer Kurita August 29, 1929 – August 18, 2021 Rosemary Baer Kurita passed away at home from natural causes. Rosemary was born in Aurora Indiana, the eldest child of Raymond and Minnie (Ahern) Baer. Growing up, Rosemary was affectionately known as Sis to her family, as she had five younger brothers. After high school, Rosemary attended Deaconess Nursing School and started her nursing career at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City Utah. It was there that she met and fell in love with Dr. Ikuya (Eek) Kurita. They were married in 1952 and had three children: Debbie, Sandy and Gregg. They moved to Oakland in 1958 and, after raising her kids, Rosemary performed volunteer work at Highland Hospital and was an active member of the Oakland Chapter of Mended Hearts. She was an elegant, gracious, witty, and engaging woman who was devoted to her family and loved Christmas, shopping, and watching basketball and Dr. Pimple Popper. Rosemary was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her brothers Dutch, Bob and Ted Baer; her son-in-law, Keene Wilson; and daughter-in-law, Sabrina Kurita. She is survived by her brothers, Jim (Janet) and Vic (Aileen) Baer; her children; her grandchildren, Skyler and Wyatt Kurita-Wilson and Justin Kurita; her great-grandchild, Karter Kurita; sister-in-law, Nancy Baer and generations of nieces and nephews. A joint Celebration of Life for Rosemary and her best friend, Yoshiko Alice Ohara, who passed on September 22, 2020, will be held at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland on September 4 from 1:00 to 3:00.
