Myrtle Lute

Myrtle Lute (nee Brown) was born September 04, 1928 to Johnnie and Katie Brown in Fort Worth, Texas. As a young woman in the 1940’s, Myrtle relocated to West Oakland and attended Laney College where she started her journey in the field of nursing. She was a decorated employee of Peralta Hospital in Oakland, CA for 28 years, having received many awards and commendations. To show their appreciation for her service, Myrtle was honored with a gold watch. She was also a devout servant of God and her community. Having been a member of both Baptist and Catholic churches, Myrtle gave her time and resources generously. She served as an usher, a bible school teacher, prepared school lunches, and coordinated the church’s food bank. Myrtle also was a loving foster parent for 35 years to many children, including Jason Nation and Pierre Rector, who have become family. Myrtle departed this life on April 02, 2022. She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Lute, parents Johnnie and Katie Brown, her brother Johnnie Brown, and her sons, Billy Sills and Donald Lute. To cherish her memory, Myrtle leaves her son, Nickey Lute (Oakland, CA), two grandsons, William Sills and Michael Lute (Oakland, CA), nephew Carl LeBlanc (Lake Charles, LA), nieces Charlene Johnson (Port Arthur, TX) Denise (Stephanie) Lute (Santa Rosa, CA) and two great nephews Cedric LeBlanc (Oakland, CA) and Julian Lute (Oakland, CA), and a host of cousins and loving friends who will miss her dearly.
