July 23, 1958 - July 13, 2021
Monica LaCole Williams Marshall was born on July 23, 1958, in Saint Louis Missouri to Doris and Wayne Williams In 1960, Monica moved with her family to the San Francisco Bay Area. She attended schools through the Berkeley Unified School District until she graduated from Berkeley High School in 1976. She was excited about furthering her education at San Francisco State University where she majored in Finance and Dance. Monica had a diverse career that covered many industries which included stock and investment planning, real estate, and most recently administrative responsibilities for the Paradise group home. Through all these different endeavors, her love of dance and music never ended. She had an adventurous spirit and was tremendously creative with a keen artistic eye. Monica forged lifelong friendships; a couple being from 6 years of age with Lawan Parker Harris and Pamela Moore-Gaines. Monica lived in many places and cultivated friendships that continued until her final days. Her biggest passion that enabled her creativity to shine through was being a jewelry designer. She created one of a kind jewelry with semi-precious stones that brought beauty and joy to people who wore them as well as the designer. She was a strong negotiator and believed in advocating for others who couldn’t do it for themselves. Monica was an excellent seamstress that could create high fashion runway ready clothing. Most recently she rediscovered her love for painting and created multimedia artworks. Monica met and married Anthony Marshall in 1995, from that union was born one son, Austin. The trio would go on many trips and adventures, from camping up at Lake Tahoe, to family trips in Houston. After many years in 2012 they separated. The trio turned into a family of two, Monica & Austin. They were inseparable. From back-to-school nights, basketball & baseball tournaments, oratorical fests, and poetry slams. If you saw one, the other wasn’t too far behind. Monica is preceded in death by Anthony Marshall and is survived by her son Austin; three siblings: Linda Preston, Sandra McCrary (Maurice McCrary), and Gordon Williams; plus, a host of aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Though tears still fall for her passing, joy comes from knowing she’s now at peace with God and her legacy will continue to live through her family and friends.
