JAMES MCKINNON RAITBeloved father of Mary (Rait) Hirsch Margaret (Rait) Muat and Jimmy and his wife, Elaine. He died August 10, 2006 in the evening at home. He had two grandsons, Jimmy and Matt by his son, Jimmy. Two grandchildren by his daughter, Margaret, Aric and Heidi. A granddaughter by his daughter, Mary, Billie a great granddaughter, Erin; his grandson, Aric and a great granddaughter, Sarah; his grandson, Matthew. His death was preceded by the death of his wife, Louise, twelve years ago. He has lived happily since with his care giver, Pat Crow and more recently with the addition of her son, Tom Paul. He retired after working for theCounty ofAlameda as an auditor appraiser. He graduated fromMenloCollege in the late 20’s. He was born on January 12, 1911 and raised in the copper mining town of Bisbee, Arizona where he lived until his high school years. He worked as an accountant in several places from coast to coast. He married Louise Geneva Westre a school teacher from North Dakota and they raised three children in Oakland . He enjoyed walking and golf through his years but in later years enjoyed his sports on TV and stamp collecting with his friend, Pat Crow. He was 95 years old when pneumonia took him. He waited till he came home from the hospital where he enjoyed his last hours in his home of 60 years with his son, Jimmy and friend, Pat. He was active in the Lutheran church all his life where he raised his three children. We all loved him and we’ll all certainly miss him. A memorial service with Pastor Kolin will be held on Wednesday at 3:30 at Chapel of the Chimes inOakland at the top of Piedmont Ave. All friends and family are welcome.
