Maxie Lee Robinson, Jr.

Birth Date: May 8, 1924
Death Date: September 6, 2017

Maxie Lee Robinson, Jr.

Maxie was born in Darby, Pennsylvania. When the Great Depression hit the United States the Robinson family moved to Goochland County, Virginia. His father had farmland so they could grow vegetables and raise cows. As the economy improved, the family returned to Pennsylvania, living in Philadelphia, where Maxie continued school.

At age 18, he enlisted in the Air Force, completed his GED and took several college courses. While in the Air Force, Maxie served in Okinawa, Japan, Kansas, Tennessee, California, and New York. While at Sewart Air Force Base in Tennessee, he was introduced to Myrtle Murphy by his golf buddy Major Dudley Watson. They dated and some time after, they got married and were off to Ramstein Airbase in Germany. After three wonderful years, there combined with travelling in Europe, he returned to the U.S. and was assigned to Olmstead Air Force Base in Pennsylvania. He retired in 1964 at this base after serving 20 years in the Air force and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal.

Maxie and Myrtle settled in Southern California for 47 years. He transitioned to civilian life by working for Stein Investigation Agency in Los Angeles for 20 years. He also served for 25 years as an usher for All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena. He was a member of St. Paul’s. Maxie enjoyed family gatherings and attending his grandchildren’s activities. To know Max was to know he was an ardent golfer; playing some of the world’s most famous courses such as St. Andrew’s, Kapalua, and Pebble Beach. Because Max and Myrtle were getting old and wanted to be near their children they moved to Northern California living in Rossmoor, Walnut Creek.

On September 6, 2017 Maxie died after a long illness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Myrtle, having shared 60 years of marriage; his daughter Saundra Anderson; his son Maxie Lee Robinson III and his wife Mary; his four grandchildren André Lusan; Antigone, Anastasia and Winston Robinson; his brother George, and last but not least, many beloved cousins, niece, two nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his youngest brother Phillip, who died in November 2016.
