Dr. Lige Dailey Jr. was born on July 2, 1946 in Catchings, Mississippi to Melvin Stinson and Lige Dailey. He moved to Oakland, California at the age of two with his family and lived as a resident of the San Francisco Bay Area (San Francisco, Oakland and Alameda) for 69 years until his death on January 28, 2018.
During his life he worked hard to earn a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, a California license in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling, and a Ph.D. in psychology. He also published many poetry works and traveled around the world as a performing artist.
Dr. Lige Dailey, Jr. overcame many obstacles in life, but at the age of 71 he succumbed to congestive heart failure and kidney disease on Sunday, January 28, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Ardella Dailey (of 46 years), his four children: Damu, Dafina, Marlina and Hashima; siblings Juanita Dailey Permillion (brother-in-law, Herb Permillion), Andrew Chaney (sister-in-law, Karen Chaney), Maxine Chaney Areola, James Chaney and the late Wallace and Dennis Chaney; two grand-daughters OniMasai Ku’ulei Connor-Dailey and Nazyia Imani Kellogg. To some family he was known affectionately as Uncle Bubba or Poppa. He leaves behind a network of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends who all loved him very dearly.
