Andrea Zenona Goins
Andrea Zenona Goins of Oakland, California passed away on August 29, 2018 after fighting several months to recover from an illness.
Andrea was born in Oakland, California on September 12, 1952 to Marjorie Oleda Goins and Fleg Goins. Her Mother remarried, and Andrea was raised by Marjorie and John Anderson in Oakland. As a pre-teen her nickname was Pumpkin. Andrea enjoyed going to school. Andrea took her science education to a small laboratory in Emeryville then on to become a Chemist at Chevron. During her first years at Chevron, Andrea joined a Buddhist Church and traveled to Japan to increase her knowledge of Buddhism.
Andrea left Chevron to pursue a career at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) on March 10, 1986. Here her career spanned over 32 years. Andrea began as a Scientific Associate with specific responsibilities as a Certified Fissile Materials Handler. Because of her hard work and diligent efforts, she was promoted to a Senior Certified Fissile Materials Handler. She also held various other positions including Scientific Associate, Alternate Supervisor for the Recovery Lab, Wet Chemistry Operations, and Quality Assurance Manager.
Andrea loved life and shared her life with her friends and family, especially her Sistahs that are some of the Honorary Pallbearers. Because of her love of music, she learned to play the cello. Andrea will be remembered for her generosity, gentleness, warmth, kindness and love of life. She enjoyed traveling especially to the Pacific Islands and the Caribbean; listening to different kinds of music including R&B, Jazz as well as classical; cooking; dining out; and spending time with family and friends. Andrea also had a wonderful gift for creating art through drawing and fabric design. She spoke enthusiastically about continuing her love for designing fabrics after retirement.
Andrea made two trips with her sister Freddie to Fiji, where they enjoyed the warm weather, blue water, and especially the Fijian people; these were special times. Andrea had several pets over the years for whom she cared and enjoyed, including her white cockatoo and basset hound.
Andrea is survived by her sister Freddie Jean; her nieces Yvette Nall and Verness Goins; her cousins Maurice Carlock, Barbara Flu-Allen and Bruce Carter; her great nieces and nephews: Antwan, Curtis, Dacia, Xavier, Renee, Rachel and Louis Jr., Tahirah, Kamilah, and Malaika; and family members and many friends who loved and adored her. She was preceded in death by her brother Curtis Anthony, her nephew Marcus, and her parents. Andrea will be greatly missed by her family, friends and colleagues with whom she enjoyed working, at LLNL.
A viewing is scheduled for Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The funeral service is scheduled for Monday, September 17, 2018 at 10:00 am and will be held at:
